Victim Advocacy
Our Victim Advocates provide compassionate and professional support to meet the immediate needs of rape victims. They provide crisis counseling on the phone, face-to-face, and advocate on behalf of victims to ensure that their rights are protected. Our Victim Advocates help victims to navigate through the criminal justice system while providing critical support throughout the life of the case and can also connect survivors with resources they may need within our agency and within the community.
24/7 Support Line
Hopeful Horizons’ 24/7 support line is staffed by well-trained volunteers and staff who are available around the clock to provide crisis intervention for victims of rape and/or their loved ones. We understand that flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, fear and depression are common symptoms that victims experience. Having someone available around the clock to provide emotional support or to simply lend a listening ear can go a long way to paving the path towards healing and recovery.
24/7 Hospital Accompaniment
We partner with all the local hospitals in four counties (Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper) to offer face-to-face support for any sexual assault victim who walks into the emergency department of these hospitals. Our crisis intervention advocates will meet victims at the hospitals and they respond within 30 minutes of receiving the call from the hospitals. Our advocates provide emotional support, victim rights education and assist with reporting the assault to law enforcement.
Supportive Therapy + Treatment
Supportive Therapy is provided by masters level therapists who help clients explore the impact that sexual assault has had on their lives while reinforcing the fact that victims are not to blame. Sexual assault often leaves victims unable to make decisions and insecure about their strengths and abilities. Supportive therapy can help clients rediscover the self-esteem necessary to heal.
Therapy/Treatment is provided by licensed Therapists through the highest-quality evidence based trauma focused treatment models. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) helps sexual assault victims by giving them a new way to handle distressing thoughts and gain an understanding of the traumatic events. By using the skills learned in this therapy, victims learn how going through a trauma can change the way they look at the world, themselves, and others which can help them heal and move forward.
Support Groups
The silence of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse can lead to a lifetime of trauma, shame and fear. Survivors of rape and childhood sexual abuse can find hope and healing by sharing and listening to the experiences and insights with other survivors. Hopeful Horizons offers support groups for both women and men survivors. We believe that healing is a journey and no survivor should have to walk the journey alone.
