Meet Our New CEO - Kristin Dubrowski
January 2019 marks our two-year anniversary as Hopeful Horizons. We have accomplished a lot over the past two years and we are poised to continue to enhance and expand services as we strive toward a community without abuse. Since it’s the start of a new year and I have recently stepped into the CEO role, we are also re-affirming our commitment to our core values – compassion, collaboration and a commitment to excellence.
January also marks the time of year that we are completing staff performance evaluations, aggregating client survey responses, reviewing outcome measures and gathering service statistics from the previous year, which makes it a perfect time to do a deep dive into what it means for us to commit to excellence at Hopeful Horizons.
Committing to excellence means keeping the well-being of survivors at the center of all that we do. It means being self-aware and abiding by ethical standards. Committing to excellence means committing to lifelong learning and recognizing that learning can take many forms.
We must always be looking for ways to improve, innovate and grow as people and as professionals. We must use research and best practices to guide our work and we must ask difficult questions and seek answers in all manner of places. In order to create change it is imperative that our services and responses aren’t stagnant and that we strive toward prevention.
The expertise, commitment and passion of our staff, board members and volunteers is second to none, but it takes a whole community working together to create meaningful change. The work of all of our partner agencies and the support of the community is critical to ending abuse and changing lives in the Lowcountry.
I am excited about what the new year holds for Hopeful Horizons and am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside all of you.
About Kristin
Kristin Dubrowski has been working in the victim service field since 1999. Prior to her move to South Carolina in 2004, Ms. Dubrowski was the director of a domestic violence shelter in Denver, Colorado. She was hired by CODA (Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse) in 2004 and became the executive director in 2007. Upon the January 1, 2017 merger of CODA and Hope Haven into Hopeful Horizons, Ms. Dubrowski became the Chief Operations Officer. As of January 1, 2019, Ms. Dubrowski moved into Hopeful Horizons’ CEO position.
She has a B.A. in Women's Studies from Cornell College, a Masters in Nonprofit Management from Regis University and she is a South Carolina certified Victim Service Provider. Ms. Dubrowski taught Leadership and Professional Ethics for the University of South Carolina, Beaufort, Human Services program from 2009 until 2012 and she currently serves on the Human Service Program Advisory Council. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and the Governing Council of the Lowcountry Continuum of Care.
